St. Petersburg Hosts Meeting of BRICS Ministers for Women’s Affairs

St. Petersburg hosted the Meeting of BRICS Ministers for Women’s Affairs on 20 September 2024 as part of Russia’s BRICS chairship.

The theme of the meeting, which was held at Tauride Palace as part of the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum, was ‘Women: Management and Leadership’.

The main goal of the meeting was to identify areas of interaction in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 5, which aims to ensure the empowerment of women and girls and gender equality.

International Social Security Association Secretary General Marcelo Caetano addressed the meeting participants with a prerecorded welcome message.

During the meeting, representatives of BRICS countries exchanged their experience in supporting women’s leadership and enhancing women’s role in management, and discussed challenges associated with expanding opportunities for women in BRICS countries, as well as developing and strengthening women’s potential at the global, regional, and national levels.

The discussion took into account the national, cultural, and economic features of each BRICS country.

Based on the outcomes of the discussion, the Russian side will prepare a chairman’s summary, which will be distributed among all BRICS countries.
