Ulyanovsk to Host 10th BRICS Youth Summit

Members of the Russia-BRICS Project Office for International Youth Cooperation held a presentation of the 10th BRICS Youth Summit at the International RUSSIA EXPO in Moscow on 3 April.

Ulyanovsk will host the BRICS Youth Summit on 22–26 July 2024. The presentation was held in the Our Culture Pavilion at the International RUSSIA EXPO at the VDNH and launched the registration to the international event, which will bring together young leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia and will serve as the key event in the youth agenda of Russia’s BRICS chairship in 2024.

Tatyana Ivshina, head of the Russia-BRICS Project Office for International Youth Cooperation and executive director of the Creative Industries Foundation of the Ulyanovsk Region, provided the audience with more details about the programme of the Summit’s tenth anniversary.

The meeting was moderated by Deputy Head of the Project Office Diana Kovela.

“The Ulyanovsk Region already hosted the BRICS Youth Summit in 2020. It is no coincidence that Ulyanovsk was once again selected as the venue for the Youth Summit, because it has everything needed to organize the meeting of young leaders at the proper level. I would like to ask everyone who considers themselves an active young leader to fill out the form to participate in the Youth Summit without delay. Registration will last until 10 June,” Kovela said.

The session participants included government officials, employees of Russian missions abroad, specialists on international relations, future diplomats, and students of Russian universities, who had a chance to learn about the prospects for BRICS youth cooperation, plans for 2024, and the activities of the Russia-BRICS Project Office for International Youth Cooperation.

Project Office Coordinator Kira Ivanova spoke about the office’s successful experience and its flagship projects for 2024.

Valeria Chernogorodova, director of the International Activities Division of the Department for Youth Projects and Programmes of the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, spoke about the agency’s interaction with BRICS countries, preparations for the Youth Summit and plans for the year. The Federal Agency for Youth Affairs is responsible for youth activities as part of Russia’s BRICS chairship.

Other speakers included Alyona Korobochkina, academic director of the master’s programme ‘Cross-Cultural Studies of Asia and Africa in the Context of International Relations’ at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, and Artyom Miroshnikov, minister of youth development of the Ulyanovsk Region.

“Developing international youth cooperation is one of the priorities of the region’s youth policy, and we are truly honoured by the trust bestowed upon us to host the BRICS Youth Summit. The Ulyanovsk Region has the infrastructure to hold events of this scale, as proven by the experience of previous years. Our region is unique in terms of its natural component. We are the birthplace of talent and a region that is proud of its history. Of course, international events are held with the direct involvement of Ulyanovsk Region Governor Alexey Russkikh and the entire government,” Miroshnikov said.

The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS chairship.
