10th Meeting BRICS Ministers of Labour and Employment to Adopt Declaration on Cooperation

The 10th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Labour and Employment will take place in Sochi on 9–10 September 2024. At the meeting, the ministers will adopt a declaration that describes key areas of cooperation in labour relations. The meeting will be held in an expanded format for the first time.

The agenda of the ministers’ discussions includes such issues as platform employment, the transformation of labour relations in response to technological trends, social security, ways to improve the work culture and reduce industrial injuries, the conceptualization of mechanisms for continuous education, and modern social policy instruments.

“It’s symbolic that the first meeting of the BRICS ministers of labour and employment was also held in Russia. We are now preparing for the tenth meeting, and the first in an expanded format. BRICS countries have established an effective dialogue on social security issues. We utilize each other’s experience and developments to improve the quality of social security for the citizens of our countries. At this meeting, we will share our approaches to forecasting the needs of the labour market with our colleagues, present our developments in social insurance, and talk about the results of the transition to a unified tariff for insurance premiums,” Russian Minister of Labour and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov said.

As part of the meeting, the participants will also attend Russian Labour Safety Week, the largest event in the industry in Russia.

Approximately 100 meeting participants are expected at the event, including more than 40 representatives of the BRICS Trade Union Forum, who have been invited as observers and whose meeting will also take place in Sochi on 7–8 September 2024 in the run-up to the ministerial meeting.

The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS Chairship.
