Moscow to Host 9th BRICS Civil Forum

The BRICS Civil Forum will be held in Moscow on 3–4 July 2024 in accordance with the official calendar of events of Russia’s BRICS Chairship under the motto ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security’.

The Forum’s opening ceremony will be attended by the Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Russia BRICS Sherpa Sergey Ryabkov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs, Chairman of the Management Board of the National Committee for BRICS Research Vyacheslav Nikonov, Co-Chairman of the Vision 2050 Working Group: Values and Rights of Peoples, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources, and Environmental Protection Vyacheslav Fetisov, and Head of the BRICS-Russia Expert Council, Vice Rector of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Russia W20 Sherpa Viktoria Panova.

As part of preparations for the Civil Forum, nine working groups were created to develop recommendations for BRICS leaders. At the Forum, participants will draft proposals to improve dialogue in such areas as the Sustainable Development Goals, education and human development, sovereign economic and financial development, the ethics of new technologies, public health and human well-being, the environment, the energy transition, and social justice.

The Civil Forum programme has been published on the official website and in the Telegram channel ‘BRICS Generation’.

The event will also include a photo exhibition ‘Colonialism 3.0: The Origins and Methods of Modern Western Globalism’ and an art exhibition ‘Nina Ruchkina. Beauty Unites the World’.

Upon conclusion of the Forum, recommendations prepared by civil society will be submitted to the leaders of BRICS countries.

The Civil Forum is a discussion and presentation platform for the civil society of BRICS member countries and invited countries, which launched its work in 2015 based on a Russian initiative.

The event is being organized by the BRICS Expert Council – Russia. The Council was created on the basis of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
