Moscow to Host BRICS Climate Agenda Forum

BRICS officials will discuss the climate agenda in Moscow on 29–30 August 2024.

Following the successful launch of the BRICS Contact Group on Climate and Sustainable Development, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development will hold the thematic BRICS Climate Agenda in Modern Conditions Forum in Moscow. The event will be held as part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship.

During the Forum, the participants will discuss the strategy for combatting climate change through the lens of sustainable development and individual countries’ approaches to trading carbon units, exchange practical solutions in matters concerning low-carbon development and adaptation to climate change, bolster scientific cooperation on climate issues, expand the network of business contacts for the implementation of joint projects, and consider effective ways to ensure the just transition.

The two-day business programme features 10 thematic sessions:

• Transition Finance
• Climate Fintech
• ESG Agenda
• Scientific Cooperation
• Green Cities
• Youth and Climate

In addition, the BRICS Contact Group on Climate and Sustainable Development will hold its third meeting on the sidelines of the Forum. The results of the meeting will be announced during the High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change, which will be held on 30 August 2024 with the participation of the ministers of BRICS countries.

The Forum will be attended by more than 250 delegates: representatives of government agencies, corporate sector, as well as expert and scientific circles from BRICS countries.

The Russian delegation will be headed by the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov. The event will be attended by experts from the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Moscow government, the Ecumene Global Financial Forum, the Andrey Melnichenko Foundation for infrastructure educational projects in the natural sciences, the Sirius Educational Centre, sustainable development specialists from the National ESG Alliance, as well as representatives of major Russian businesses from Gazprombank and Sber.

The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS Chairship.
