Statistical Indicators from Start of 21st Century to be Published on Unified BRICS Platform
Russia presented the 2024 BRICS Joint Statistical Publication and a BI platform based on the annual publication at the 16th Meeting of Heads of BRICS National Statistical Agencies on 28–29 October 2024 in Kazan.
BRICS total GDP exceeds that of the G7 by 6.7%. Russia has ranked among the world’s top four economies – three of the four are members of BRICS – in terms of purchasing power parity since 2021.
Data on BRICS most important socio-economic indicators can now be found in the annual statistical publication, which BRICS statistical agencies have been putting out since 2010.
On 29 October 2024, the Heads of BRICS Statistical Agencies presented the 14th edition of the Joint Statistical Publication, a joint effort of all of BRICS statistical agencies, including the new members that joined the group in January 2024.
According to Rosstat Head Sergey Galkin: “There are 15 chapters in BRICS 2024 publication, and they provide a comparative analysis of important trends in the socio-economic development of our nations. The impressive work presents users with a bevy of accurate, up-to-date statistics on more than 650 social, economic, demographic, and environmental indicators. This year’s publication also features infographics presenting interesting information and highlighting differences and similarities between the countries in certain categories in an easy-to-understand format.”
This year Rosstat added to the traditional printed and electronic versions of the publication an online BI platform based on the official statistical information collected since the publication’s first release.
“BRICS Statistics are published at one point. The official data in the portal, provided by the countries themselves, date back to 2000. The platform is essentially a single data repository of accessible information in dashboards and infographics. Whereas the platforms of other international organizations require additional recalculation, the data appears in BRICS system automatically,” Deputy Head of Rosstat Sergey Egorenko said.
The site will be available in Russian, English, and other official languages of BRICS countries, and users can use complex statistical algorithms in their calculations to gain new knowledge and insight. The tool allows for data to be collected automatically and uploaded in different formats. The BI portal is currently being tested and will be made available to the public in 2025 following updates based on feedback from all participating countries.
The 14th BRICS Joint Statistical Publication is available on the Rosstat website under About Rosstat / Activities / International Cooperation / BRICS or right here.
